Rebuilding Chennai

Shilpa Foundation is committed to Rebuild Chennai!

A number of people came in to help as many parts of Tamil Nadu were experiencing flooding as a result of the torrential rains. As a first step, volunteers (including NDRF, Indian Army, Corporates, IT Companies & other private groups) ensured the safety of those directly affected.  Next, they provided food & safe drinking water.  As an immediate follow-on, clothing & blankets were distributed to save them from the shivers of the rain.  What next? A process of to ensure that people get back to their homes and their lives. Many have lost everything.  The air is filled with heart-warming & heart wrenching stories.  It is pertinent to provide the necessary infrastructure in place to move to re-building after the devastation.

Where are we headed?

“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” — Chinese Proverb

We should use this crisis to rewire our lopsided mechanisms to work with a single minded focus to achieve a holistically sustainable design solution for our city and measure the impact of our progress through the Reciprocal Design Index.
